2017 Quittie Park Expansion
The Annville community once again has a unique opportunity to add stream-side land to the Quittie Creek Nature Park. A beautiful tract of land, which extends along the north bank of the Quittapahilla from East High Street in Annville to the Park entrance on Bachman Road, consists of 2.64 acres. The current owner has agreed to sell this land to Annville Township to be used as park land.
Acquisition of this land for the Quittie Creek Nature Park in Annville would add a third of a mile of land directly along the Quittapahilla Creek and would expand the nature park to 36 acres, stretching approximately 1.25 miles along the Quittie Creek. This new land will also provide a permanent hiking trail that connects the park to the East High Street area and neighborhoods to the west (see photo of this land on the right).
The Quittie Creek Nature Park Committee of Friends of Old Annville, Inc. has initiated a fund-raising campaign to purchase this new land for the Quittie Park. The Committee will raise the funds, but Annville Township, owner of the current park, will own the new land as well.
The estimate of the cost of the project is $27,000, which includes the land purchase itself, costs for surveying and subdividing the land, legal costs, closing costs, signage costs, and costs for a short easement to connect the land directly to East High Street.
Owen Moe of the park committee reported: “We are pleased to announce that Fred and Tanya Richter of Annville have stepped forward with an offer to cover the cost of the land itself ($15,335), leaving our organization with the task of raising the remaining $11,665.” The Park Committee is now seeking support in its efforts to fund the expansion of the Quittie Creek Nature Park. Persons interested in donating to this park expansion project can download and fill out a Donation Commitment Form at the Friends of Old Annville website (www.fooa.org) and mail it and a check made out to the Quittie Creek Nature Park Committee to Kathleen Moe, Quittie Creek Nature Park Committee, 308 East Main Street, Annville, PA 17003. The deadline for donations is September 1, 2017.
Donations will be tax deductible, as Friends of Old Annville, the sponsor of the Quittie Creek Nature Park Committee, is a 501(c)(3) organization.
