22nd Annual Historic Old Annville Day Held on June 19, 2010

For Historic Old Annville Day this year we made two major changes:  we closed Main Street on the west end of Annville for the entire day, allowing people to wander freely and safely up and down the street from stand to stand; and we were able to bring in 74 vendors (up from 48 last year) whose stands stretched from the Library on the East end of Annville almost to the Batdorf Restaurant on the West end. See vendor list: Vendor List

The weather was beautifully sunny, but it turned quite warm in the afternoon.  The crowds were exceptionally large nonetheless, as can be seen in the view looking west on Main (picture on right).  We featured music at two venues, at Kettering Corner and at the Allen Theater.  The Quittapahilla Highlanders, our own local bagpipe band, used the closed street to play stirring music while marching up and down the center of the street in the West end of town.  We had activities for kids (a free bouncy at the Library, balloon art, Splat Studio art, sidewalk drawing) and a show by Annville artists at MJ’s Coffeehouse.

With the many new vendors, the selection of arts and crafts was noticeably greater, as was the choice of foods.  We held the raffle drawing at 1 PM at Kettering Corner with prizes going to Tony Mattassa of Birdsboro, PA ($500), Jim Walker of Annville ($250), and Art Ford of Annville ($100).  All in all, it was a great day in downtown historic Annville.  Next year, we will celebrate Historic Old Annville Day on Saturday, June 11, 2011. Friends of Old Annville is supported in sponsoring this event by donations from the greater Annville community - use link to view list of donors < Donor List >.

Property Pride Award Given at Historic Old Annville Day

On June 19, during Historic Old Annville Day, Friends of Old Annville presented its 2010 Property Pride Award to Christopher and Ellen Cooper of 132 West Main Street. The award, a framed painting of their beautiful home by Annville artist Jenny Paulson, was presented by Owen Moe, President of FOOA to the Cooper family (pictured at right).

Their brick home features highly ornate woodwork over the windows and doors and at the roof line and a historic wrought-iron fence along the front of their property. A new paint job has made the home (pictured on left) a stunning addition to West Main Street.  Many thanks to the Coopers for taking such good care of their historic Annville home!

Historic Building Award to Ralph and Mildred Shanaman

The award, presented at the November 2009 Annual Meeting of FOOA, was given to the Shanamans for their restoration of the stone wall and iron fence surrounding the front of the home. The award also recognizes their years of careful upkeep of one of Annville's historic treasures.
