In the middle of the 19th century, the Forney family manufactured and distributed furniture at the site on the northeast corner of White Oak and East Main. As was common at the time, the furniture business also provided the services of an undertaker, which were “attended to promptly and well. Satisfaction guaranteed” (1843).
At some point between 1888 and 1911, the factory was dismantled and the site became home to Fry’s Oyster and Fish Store (on the left in the picture below). |
